Our Vision:
Growing Together…
Deeper in Discipleship
Closer in Friendship
Further in Partnership
…Growing Relevant Relationships
Jesus said. “I am the vine, you are the branches.
If you remain in me and I in you,
you will bear much fruit.
Apart from me you can do nothing.”
(John 15.5)
Our vision statement was cast during a year of discussion & prayer between 2004/5. Click here to read a fuller exploration of what it means to us.
Our History:
The church began life in 1969 as the Ise Lodge Estate was being built. A daughter church of the neighbouring Parish of St Botolphs in Barton Seagrave, we met for worship first in Henry Gotch School on Deeble Road. Then, as both the estate and the church grew, we met in succession of huts and halls in the centre of the estate. In 1987 the current church building was built by the Diocese of Peterborough and in 1995 Christ the King became a Parish in its own right.
In 1993 in response to growing numbers the single morning worship service was replaced by two services – one at 9.00am and one at 11.00am, and these have developed into two distinct worshipping congregations. A third congregation then began at 6.30 pm.
In the past 10 years, members of the church have pioneered a fresh expression of church on the neighbouring Grange estate, and this is know now by the name Eagles’ Wings.
In 2005 we established a seasonal ‘Songs of Praise’ style service to appeal to those drawn to a more traditional style of music. At Easter 2006, an all-age congregation, Grapevine, began and this now meets in Kingsley Special school on Churchill Way, one of the original venues of Christ the King prior to the construction of the church building.
Throughout the story of Christ the King runs the desire to be relevant – not chasing a shallow popularity, but aiming to for our faith to make sense and a difference in today’s world. In John 15, Jesus pictures the healthy church as like branches of a vine, bearing fruit because they remain part of him. It is a picture of unity, growing together. It is also a picture of fruitful growth through relationship.
As we look to the future, we are now considering how to extend our facilities on the church site so that we can fulfil our vision to be growing together as a church, growing relevant relationships.
